Gluten-Free Fad or Healthy Diet?

There is such a huge deal going on about why you should buy gluten free products and so many people are all of a sudden allergic to gluten. But 10 or 15 years ago you didn't hear about this gluten allergy. So why not? According to Discovery News , "A recent survey showed that 29 percent of Americans are interested in either giving gluten up altogether or vastly reducing their intake. And most of them do not have celiac disease and are not gluten sensitive."

Are these people really allergic to gluten or is it just a fad or trend people are wanting to follow or are they simply trying to lose weight?
According to Dr. Leffer, "People who are sensitive to gluten may feel better, but a larger portion will derive no significant benefit from the practice. They’ll simply waste their money, because these products are expensive,” says Dr. Leffler, who is also an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School."
Many people are becoming gluten free becasue it is the "cool" and "trendy" thing to do.
